Oaklawn announces rise in purses for 2015 season

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Oaklawn Park says it will raise purses for live thoroughbred racing for the seventh consecutive year.

The track in Hot Springs opens its 57-day meet on Jan. 9. The season concludes April 11 with the running of the $1 million Arkansas Derby.

Director of Racing David Longinotti said revenue has increased from gambling at the track's casino-style electronic games. Also helping increase purses was Oaklawn's advanced deposit wagering service, which launched at the start of this year's meet.

With Oaklawn Anywhere, gamblers can open online wagering accounts.

The track projects paying $23.5 million to horsemen during the coming meet.

The Rebel Stakes payout will rise to $750,000 from $600,000.
