U.S. House votes to refill Highway Trust Fund

Posted: Updated:

The U.S. House has approved a bill that will keep the Highway Trust Fund solvent through May of next year.

The vote was 367 to 55. President Obama has been pressing Congress on keeping the funding going, saying needed road and bridge projects would stop or be delayed if the fund runs dry, which could happen in a matter of weeks.

Rep. Dave Camp, the Republican Chairman of the Ways & Means Committee, said, "The bill before us will provide enough funding to get us through May 31, 2015. This legislation is the only package with all provisions having a proven history of getting big bipartisan votes in both the House and the Senate."

The Senate is also considering its own temporary fix.
