Baptist breaks ground on new Conway hospital

Posted: Updated:

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday in Conway to officially get construction going on a new hospital.

Baptist Health Medical Center will be located just off Interstate 40 in the southern part of Conway.

It's expected to cost about $130 million to complete the 200,000 square foot hospital.

Governor Mike Beebe took part in the ceremony, praising Conway for its growth and quality of life.

"The political and business leadership is extraordinary here, and it doesn't hurt that you've got so many colleges and the demographics are well-educated and a relatively young population and that attracts business opportunity and business activity," the governor said.

The hospital is expected to open in 2016 with 96 beds, 8 operating rooms and a Trauma Center Emergency Room.
