FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas defensive end Trey Flowers has been named to the watch list for the Bednarik Award that's presented to the player selected as the college football defensive player of the year.
The Maxwell Football Club announced the 76-man watch list on Monday. Semifinalists will be announced in November, while the winner will be named on Dec. 11.
Flowers was a second-team All-SEC selection in 2013 after recording 44 tackles, with five quarterback sacks, three forced fumbles, one interception and two pass breakups.
The award is named for Chuck Bednarik - a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame and the NFL Hall of Fame. It has been presented each year since 1995.
