Bryant endorses Hutchinson for Arkansas governor

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A substitute teacher who lost to Mike Ross in last month's Democratic gubernatorial primary is backing Republican nominee Asa Hutchinson.

Hutchinson's campaign announced Monday that Lynette Bryant is endorsing the Republican in the November election. Bryant lost the Democratic nomination to Ross in which she won about 16 percent of the vote in the May 20 primary.

Ross and Hutchinson are both former congressmen who handily dispatched lesser-known, underfunded rivals in the May 20 primary. Hutchinson defeated Little Rock businessman Curtis Coleman in the GOP primary.

Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe is barred by term limits from seeking re-election this fall.

    COTTON PLANT, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas State Police say three men have died in a single-vehicle crash.Jonesboro television station KAIT reports (http://bit.ly/1zkMwzC ) the crash happened early Sunday morning on State Highway 38 west of Cotton Plant.Police say the vehicle went off the road and struck a concrete culvert. The vehicle was launched into the air and hit an electric pole.The driver and the passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.More >>
