ALMA, Ark. (AP) - A dedication ceremony for a new section of Interstate 49 will be held in western Arkansas next week.

The Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority and the Alma Area Chamber of Commerce are celebrating the recent designation of I-49 for a stretch of highway from Alma to near Bella Vista.

A 6½ -mile section of the highway through Chaffee Crossing is scheduled to open in October. It will initially be designated Highway 549.

The Southwest Times Record reported Friday (http://bit.ly/1rftC8U ) the dedication ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of the Grace Church in Alma. The lot has a view of I-49.

The highway will eventually link New Orleans and Canada by a four-lane highway. The longest unfinished stretch is the 185 miles from Fort Smith to Texarkana.
