BAPD: Suspect Kills Himself after Walmart Attempted Robbery

Posted: Updated:

A 25 to 30-year-old male killed himself after attempting to rob a Broken Arrow Walmart Thursday evening, Broken Arrow Police say.

The incident occurred at the 3900 East Hillside Drive Walmart location at approximately 6:16 p.m.

The BAPD says the suspect brandished a gun inside the store and demanded money from the customer service desk. But when employees could not get the cash drawer open, the suspect fled in a motorcycle.

The motorcycle was found in a wooded area north of 61st Street and 209th East Avenue.

Police set up a perimeter in the area and stopped a pickup truck that had three occupants. The suspect was in the bed of the pickup truck, while a driver and passenger were inside the truck. Police say the driver and passenger did not know the suspect.

Broken Arrow Police say the suspect pointed a gun to his head and after a brief exchange with police, shot and killed himself. The name of the man has not yet been released.

Police Chief David Boggs stated, “This is a tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the individuals and families of all those involved today.”
