18-year-old drowns in Saline River

Posted: Updated:
SALINE COUNTY (KATV) - A popular swimming and fishing spot in Saline County was the scene of a drowning Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Ryan Baker, 18, had been reported missing around 12.30 p.m. while swimming in the Saline River.

Benton Police and Fire arrived and searched with Grant County Fire and Rescue and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

At around 2:50 p.m., Michael Baker's body was found in the river.

“It’s not normal, it’s kind of disturbing, it makes me cringe a little bit,” said Cody Nall, who frequents the Saline River for fishing and swimming.

The Arkansas Game and Fish commission mentioned that parts of the Saline River, where families swim, can be up to 15 feet deep. They want to remind those swimming in any river to wear a life jacket.

“Thoughts go out to the family, Nall said. "If there is anything we can do, let us know."
