LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Republican U.S. Sen. John Boozman says Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki should resign over systemic problems within the VA's health care system, but says other changes are needed as well.
The first-term senator from Arkansas said Friday a leadership change is needed at the VA after revelations of treatment delays for thousands of veterans. An inspector general's report released Wednesday said 1,700 veterans in need of care were kept off the official waiting list at Phoenix's VA hospital.
Boozman said Shinseki's exit alone won't solve the VA's problems.
Boozman is the latest member of the state's congressional delegation to call for Shinseki's ouster. Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor on Thursday said he was outraged by the delays but wasn't ready to call for the secretary to step down.
