Beefed up security for Riverfest

Posted: Updated:
Downtown Little Rock (KATV) – With Riverfest kicking off Friday at 6:00 pm, security has started beefing up around the River Market.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s office will guard the bridges, Little Rock Police will control downtown around Riverfest, a private company is assisting with the Riverfest gates and Riverfest has their own security.

Those four agencies will oversee around 250,000 people in for the three day music and arts festival.

Security Coordinator Shay Matyja says there will be more metal detectors at the gate, and asks those waiting in line for patience.

Matyja says that purses will be checked but backpacks aren’t allowed.

“If you can’t bring it to an airport, you shouldn’t bring it to Riverfest.” Says Matyja.

If a weapon is brought to the Riverfest gate, you’ll be asked to bring it back to your vehicle. Knives will be checked at the gate and given back once you leave.

Little Rock Police will set up two bird nest in the River Market area, one at the intersection of La Harpe and Markham another near the Clinton Center.
