Local restaurant owner accused of shooting wife

Posted: Updated:
North Little Rock (KATV)-Authorities say the owner of Las Delicias Mexican Food allegedly shot his wife in the chest Tuesday and turned himself into police late last night. Ernesto Anaya, 58 is being charged with first degree battery. His wife, Evangelina Anaya, 52, is reported to be out of surgery and recovering at UAMS.

Police were called to the home Tuesday over a domestic disturbance and were told by a caller that Ernesto was involved.

"We were told in the beginning by 911 that he was possibly still at the residence, however he had fled prior to officers arriving," said Sgt. Brian Dedrick of the North Little Rock Police Department.

Last year authorities were called to the restaurant over a physical fight between the couple. A family member reported they were "getting divorced and were in an argument over opening or closing the restaurant they co-own."

Just days before Tuesday's attack, Evangelina got an order of protection against him.

"In this case, you know just looking into it, when you have an order of protection issued, it's pretty serious. That person normally feels scared for reasons we may not know at the time," said Dedrick.
