Vilonia congregation holds service on rubble of former church building

Posted: Updated:
VILONIA (KATV) - Pastor Matt Rothacher led services Sunday morning at 10:00 AM promptly for his congregation, The Valley Church.  The church, which sat in the strip mall in the center of town, was leveled by this past Sunday's EF-4 tornado.

A church from Cabot brought a semi-truck loaded with wooden pews on loan for the church to set up for worship.  The pews were set up on former walls of the church, while rows of folding chairs filled the foundation of the building.  Rothacher said his church wasn't destroyed, because the church isn't a building - rather the church is the people who comprise the congregation.

Rothacher said the church will worship next week at Vilonia Primary School while they look for a new home.

KATV's Matt Mershon will have the story from Vilonia on Channel 7 News at 5:00 & Nightside.
