A man is dead Friday after a fire broke out in an area of his Muskogee County residence.
Firefighters responded to the residence early Friday morning in the 7400 block of Old Taft Road located west of Muskogee. At the scene they found a double wide trailer fully engulfed in flames.
Officials with the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office told KTUL that the homeowner, Malcolm Moore, noticed the fire and began evacuating his family. But it was when he was about to exit the home with his wife and children that he realized his pets were still inside.
Moore's wife told the firefighters that she noticed he wasn't outside with them and had returned inside. He reportedly died after being consumed by the fire and smoke.
Emergency paramedics transported Moore's family to an area hospital with second degree burns.
Crews from the Mountain View Fire Department and Taft Fire Department worked with several other area volunteer fire department to extinguish the fire.
