Clemmer's Treasurer Made 'Unauthorized Disbursements'

Posted: Updated:
Secretary of State Mark Martin's chief spokesman Alex Reed is no longer affiliated with the Ann Clemmer for Congress campaign, which disclosed Reed made thousands of dollars of "unauthorized disbursements" to himself as campaign treasurer.

In Clemmer's latest FEC report, 23 transactions totaling $9,524.21 to Reed were documented. The campaign also listed a $20,000 'loan' from Reed, a repayment for the unauthorized disbursements. Reed's overpayment resulted in the campaign refunding him $10,483.62.

"All funds have been returned and we are currently in the process of filing the necessary paperwork with the FEC to name a new campaign treasurer. The individual who made the unauthorized disbursements is no longer affiliated with the campaign committee. I want to take full responsibility for the issues on our latest FEC report," said Clemmer.

Reed has also stepped down from his position on the Pulaski County Election Commission, but he is currently still employed with the secretary of state's office.
