Homeless man charged with murder, local shelter reacts.

Little Rock (KATV)---The homeless man who is being charged with first degree murder is being held on a $1 million bond. Little Rock police say 45 year old Leslie Webb got the attention of officers at La Harpe Boulevard and State Street Tuesday night. The report stated that Webb told an officer he was staying near 1400 North Street. Webb then told officers that a man woke him up by shining a light in this face, and then started hitting Webb with it. Police say that officers saw a noticeable amount of blood on Webb’s body. Webb took police back to where he was staying and that’s where they found the body of 45-year-old Willie Taylor. Detectives found out later that Webb and Taylor knew one another.

The death of a homeless man was brought up at the Little Rock Compassion Center, residents and workers there were not surprised the victim was stabbed. Pastor William Holloway of the Little Rock Compassion Center showed KATV what he had collected in his desk drawer. Inside were over ten knives confiscated from homeless men who’ve come to stay in his shelter. “That’s just this month.” He said after showing us a pile of knives. He says they use them for protection. But when the homeless come to him, he confiscates their weapons. If they’re guns, he’ll give them to police. Holloway estimates that Little Rock has three to four thousand homeless in the city alone. His shelter holds only around a hundred at a time, some of which are under 30 years old. 22 year old Richard Taylor says he got involved in substance abuse at a young age. Now he’s trying to get back on his feet with the help of Pastor Holloway. “People have tried to kill me and I’ve survived that,” Said Taylor.

Shelters like The Compassion Center are always free and looking for donations. Donations are accepted at the link bellow.
