UA System trustees to consider online initiative

Posted: Updated:

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - Trustees of the University of Arkansas System are to consider a plan that would create an online education program that targets older students.

The board meets Thursday at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.

The proposal was formulated by UA System President Donald R. Bobbitt as a way to reach students who aren't served by traditional offerings at college campuses.

Bobbitt wants to offer a limited number of degree programs for adults who need the flexibility of online learning. Among the goals of the proposal are affordable tuition and offering coursework that's relevant for the workforce.
