Former Lt. Gov. applies for lobbyist position

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - University of Arkansas officials are reviewing applications from 32 people for a lobbyist position that is to come open at the end of the fiscal year.

Among those applying is former Lt. Gov. Mark Darr, who resigned from office on Feb. 1 after being fined $11,000 for ethics violations.

On his application, Darr said he'd explain his reason for leaving "in (the) interview process."

There are other notable names from business, government and academic circles. Among them are state Sen. Johnny Key of Mountain Home, Washington Regional Medical Center top fundraiser James Kimbrough and federal housing policy adviser Duke McLarty.

The position is coming open with the retirement of Richard Hudson, who announced in November he would leave the job as of June 30.

The job remains posted until filled.
