Search resumes for missing pilot, plane in Ark.

Posted: Updated:

MENA, Ark. (AP) - The search has resumed for a missing Arkansas Forestry Commission pilot and his plane in western Arkansas.

Commission spokeswoman Adriane Barnes says the search resumed Sunday - but is limited to a ground search because poor visibility prevented helicopters and airplanes from taking off.

The search for pilot Jake Harrell began Jan. 31 when he disappeared while on a flight from Oden to Wickes in search of wildfires in the region.

Winter weather conditions have hampered search efforts and Barnes says any wreckage of the aircraft may be obscured by snow and ice that has fallen in the rugged mountainous area since Harrell disappeared.

Barnes says searchers are using satellite images and information from Harrell's cellphone company in an effort to narrow the search area and find the aircraft.
