New poll: Cotton leading Pryor in Ark. Senate race

Posted: Updated:

A new Rasmussen poll shows a slight edge to the challenger in the 2014 Arkansas Senate race.

45% of 500 likely Arkansas voters chose Republican Congressman Tom Cotton as their candidate of choice, compared to 40% for incumbent Democrat Mark Pryor. 5% answered with some other candidate, and 10% are still undecided.

Pryor's campaign was quick to disagree with the survey. "It is no surprise that one of the most notoriously inaccurate pollsters is flat wrong about Arkansas' Senate race. No bogus partisan poll will distract Arkansans from Congressman Cotton's irresponsible votes to kill the Farm Bill and turn Medicare into a voucher system," said deputy campaign manager Erik Dorey.

Meantime, the Cotton campaign was cautious in their reaction. "We try not to put too much stock in any particular poll, but all publicly available polling shows a clear trend: Senator Mark Pryor's lockstep support for President Obama's agenda has made him very unpopular with Arkansas voters," said Communications Director David Ray.

The survey was conducted on February 4-5, 2014 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is + or - 4.5% with a 95% level of confidence.
