Griffin mulling run for Lt. Gov.

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin says he's considering running for Arkansas lieutenant governor this year, potentially shaking up the race just months after announcing his retirement from Congress.

Griffin told The Associated Press on Thursday he's weighing whether to seek the party's nomination for lieutenant governor. Griffin represents central Arkansas' 2nd Congressional District and announced in October that he wouldn't seek a third term this year.

Griffin is a former interim United States Attorney and was elected to Congress in 2010 and 2012.

State Reps. Charlie Collins and Andy Mayberry are already seeking the GOP nomination for lieutenant governor. Former Highway Commissioner John Burkhalter is the only Democratic candidate.

There is no incumbent. Republican Mark Darr stepped down last week over ethics and campaign violations.
