NEWPORT (KATV) - An illegal weapons operation has been discovered in a Newport house and a man has been arrested.

The Jackson County Sherriff's Office said authorities discovered and seized 81 firearms, more than 19,000 rounds of ammunition in assorted calibers, 199 semi-automatic firearm ammunition magazines (clips) in assorted calibers, a large stock of other firearms parts and accessories, materials used for manufacturing firearm silencers, a suspected stolen Honda 400 foreman four wheeler, and other items of evidence from a house at 2700 Mimosa Drive.

Donald M Boyster, 69, of Newport turned himself in at the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and was charged with possession of firearms by certain persons, criminal use of prohibited weapon, and possession of a defaced firearm.

"The Jackson County Sheriff's Office works very hard in an effort to keep our citizens and youth safe, and based on the information that my investigators had received, I'm glad that we were able to initiate this investigation. It has led to the seizure of a very large cache of weapons and ammunition that will not end up on the streets of Newport and Jackson County," said Sheriff David Lucas.

Investigators had been looking into this illegal operation for several months. They say the investigation conitinues and there may be more arrests.
