Ark. crews closing I-40-55 lane at West Memphis

Posted: Updated:

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas highway workers will close lanes on Interstates 40 and 55 in West Memphis beginning Thursday morning.

Closures are to start at 7 a.m. Thursday in the eastbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 40 and Interstate 55. Workers will soon rebuild the road, which carries both highways.

The work had been set to start Monday but was delayed due to cold weather. The Arkansas highway department said pavement markings must be worked on at certain temperatures.

Highway workers will improve I-40 and I-55 from West Memphis' north interchange to Mound City Road.

The construction project is part of a road plan approved by voters in 2011. It is due to be completed in 2015.
