Two Oklahoma political figures announced their plans for Sen. Tom Coburn's seat after this retirement.

Oklahoma House Speaker T.W. Shannon stated Wednesday morning at the Tulsa Historical Society that he plans to run for the U.S. Senate seat. Shannon has been serving his current role for a year.

Earlier this week Shannon added that he has fielded hundreds of phone calls since he first indicated an interest in the seat, all of them positive and encouraging.

Also Wednesday morning, U.S. Representative Jim Bridenstine announced that he would not seek Coburn's seat. Adding that he was honored by the support he received.

"I would like to thank my faithful supporters who have provided so much encouragement," a statement from Bridenstine's office read. "Their extraordinary outpouring of support strengthens my resolve to continue our efforts in the U.S. House of Representatives."
