UPDATE : Work on I-40 near LR postponed

Posted: Updated:

MAUMELLE, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas highway crews have postponed work on a portion of Interstate 40 between Little Rock and Conway because of cold weather.

A temporary concrete wall will be constructed Thursday night into Friday morning between the exit at Morgan and Maumelle and the Faulkner-Pulaski county line. The closure involves the westbound lane.

Beginning Friday night, the inside lanes in each direction will be closed overnight for about two weeks, except on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Work was set to start Wednesday.

Crews will use a wetsaw and there are concerns runoff in the cold weather could cause icy conditions.

Workers are widening five miles of Interstate 40 to three lanes wide in each direction - up from the current two lanes. The $21.4 million project should be completed this summer.
