Voter ID machine at Faulkner county courthouse

Posted: Updated:

CONWAY (Log Cabin) - Faulkner County voters can get a free Voter Identification Card at the Faulkner County Courthouse.

The Faulkner County Clerk received the ID printer in December, and has so far made one person a voter ID. More are expected as November's midterm election gets closer.

Some form of state- or institutionally-issued ID is required by Act 595, which became law last year after the state Legislature voted to override Gov. Mike Beebe's veto of the ID requirement. Support for the ID requirement was split along party lines, with state Republicans arguing that it was a common sense measure to prevent voter fraud while Democrats maintained that it would tend to disenfranchise poor, minority, absentee and elderly voters.
