Bismarck school evacuated while police try to calm nearby suicidal man

Posted: Updated:

BISMARCK (KATV) - The Hot Spring County Sheriff's Department said a man threatening to shoot himself caused some chaos Monday night.

It happened at a home near Highway 84 on Midland Road. Authorities shut down the highway and evacuated the Bismarck High School where a basketball tournament was going on just as precautionary measures.

Police say shots were fired at a home prior to their arrival. Everyone in the house, except for the man with the gun, left the house by the time authorities got there. No one was injured.

The man surrendered to police peacefully after about 9 minutes of talking with negotiators. He was taken into custody without incident.
