MORRILTON (Petit Jean Country Headlight) - The Conway County Christian Clinic, a free medical clinic serving Conway and Perry counties, held its last clinic Thursday night.

Clinic Manager Jerry Bolin said the night was emotional for the volunteers, both sad and glad.

"We were sad as we have enjoyed working together as a ministry all these years, yet glad that our patients will now have insurance under the Affordable Care Act and will be able to get even more medical care than we can provide," Bolin said.

The ministry was organized after a Vision 20/20 survey conveyed the need of medical services in the two counties.

A wing of Morrilton Christian Center was donated for use, and site preparation began in January 2004. A volunteer staff was trained and a number of local medical professionals signed on and the first clinic was held May 18, 2001.

The free clinic provided eight medical services, including basic medical, dental, pharmacy and diabetic education.

During the first full month of operations, there were 28 patient visits and 40 prescriptions issued with a combined value of $4,639. The final month of operations saw 33 patient visits and 461 prescriptions issued with a combined value of $65,437. The clinic has provided more than $5.5 million of goods and services to the community since its inception.
