SHERWOOD (KATV) – A young girl is fighting for her life after she fell into a pond off of Old Tom Box Road in Sherwood on Friday.

The pond is located just off of the Hillside Bayou Mobile Home Park at the corner of Old Tom Box Road and Phoenix Lane.  Neighbors said the body of water was not blocked off, until after the girl fell in to the water.  Now there is supposedly orange fencing with a no trespassing sign up surround the pond.

Neighbor, Josh Chapman said he rushed into the water to grab the girl after the girl's sister came yelling to their mother.  According to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department, the girl slipped and fell into the water.  When Chapman found her he said she was lifeless and without a pulse.

Chapman said he used his military training to try and resuscitate the girl.

"I actually used my combat life saver, self-aid buddy care type stuff to do chest compressions and be able to try to get oxygen back through her lungs," said Chapman.

The 12 year-old girl, was medflighted to Arkansas Children's Hospital where according to Chapman she is currently in the Intensive Care Unit on a ventilator and unresponsive.  Doctors say her brain is swollen and are just playing the waiting game hoping that she'll survive.
