New GPS device tracks your child's every move

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - A new GPS device takes aim at high kidnapping numbers by letting you know where your child is at all times.

Every day more than 2,000 kids are reported missing nationwide. Amber Alert GPS promises to lower those staggering numbers and give worried parents piece of mind.

Four-year-old Jake Williams is wearing a new gadget this holiday season. Not just for him but for his dad, Matt Williams.

"Being secure with where they're at and being able to know that all the times I think is something that every parent wants," said Williams.

It's a Christmas present for parents who constantly worry about their children's whereabouts. The device, which can also be carried in a pocket or backpack, has two-way voice calling, speed alerts which notifies parents when a car their child is in is going too fast. It also allows parents to create zones, this tells them through text or e-mail when they've entered a certain neighborhood, school or any other area chosen area. Williams works for AT&T and has been testing out the gadget for two weeks now.

"As a parent you always fear the worst," he said. "I don't think there's any way from creeping in your mind."

And the worst happens far to often. By New Years Eve over 800,000 children will have been reported missing in the U.S. this year alone. If it happens to be your child, the device has an SOS button that they can press if they're in danger.

"As Arkansans I think this hits closer to home," said Anita Smith. "I think we've had, you know, with Morgan Nick, I think we've had a pretty high profile abduction that I think we're still all grieving."

It's the kind of incident Williams says we can now try harder to prevent.

"It about time that we have something like this that can make knowing someone's location or staying in contact as simple as a push of a button," he said.
