Gate City residents displeased with new placement

Posted: Updated:
BIRMINGHAM - AL -

It's been five days since the Gate City explosion. Several people have been displaced as a result.

Cynthia Honeycutt's building was next door to the blowout where one person died, several injured, fifteen displaced at other apartments in Gate City. Honeycutt was one of the 15.

"It don't make no sense, they move people down here. They don't care," says Honeycutt.

She claims her place is infested with roaches, has cracks in her heater and her water sink clogs.

Honeycutt's biggest concern is her 2 year old grandson, who has special needs who can't walk or talk, and lives under these conditions.  And as Christmas approaches, without her home, she feels the City of Birmingham, Alagasco and the Housing Authority could do a lot more.

"I'm just tired, they need to get me out of here and put me somewhere else," says Honeycutt.
