1 dead when EF2 tornado strikes in Hughes

Posted: Updated:

DERMOTT, Ark. (AP) - St. Francis County authorities say a woman was killed when a tornado struck near Hughes.

The woman's name and age were not immediately released.

Deputy Sheriff Jason Bradshaw says the woman was found in an auto outside her home after the storm Saturday with her 25-year-old daughter and 3-year-old granddaughter also in the car and a man in a field nearby. Bradshaw says the 3-year-old is hospitalized with arm and leg injuries and that her mother was treated and released.

Bradshaw says the man found in the field is hospitalized in serious condition.

National Weather Service offices say the Hughes tornado was an EF2 with wind speeds of about 130 miles per hour and a tornado near Dermott was an EF1 with wind speeds between 86 and 110 mph.
