Mother, daughter receive a Home for the Holidays

CLAY - JEFFERSON COUNTY -

Christmas came a little early for a mother and her daughter. Thursday, Ivory Prince and six year old Janiya got keys to their first home. Prince hopes her daughter now understands where hard work can take her.

Like many Christmas gifts, Prince's came wrapped in a big red bow.

"This day has finally come. I've been counting down since December 5 and it's finally here," said Prince.

Thursday, Prince became a homeowner. The Habitat for Humanity house was built in just ten days. Prince was on site every day working alongside volunteers. She even helped construct the walls.

"The guys made sure it [the wall] was down tight, so I feel very confident it will stay up," said Prince.

Countless volunteers from 12 companies including ABC 33/40 made her Christmas wish possible. For that, Janiya was grateful and eager to broadcast her feelings on live TV.

"Thank you very much for helping my mom and I love you people. Ya'll so nice people. Ya'll aren't ungrateful. You are so nice," said Janiya.

But Prince says she did it for her daughter.

"To show her I worked hard to get a house is a blessing," she said.

ABC 33/40 has sponsored Home for the Holidays for eleven years. Twelve houses have been built.
