Faulkner County man arrested on probable cause of sex with minors

FAULKNER COUNTY (KATV) - A Cato volunteer firefighter has been arrested on probable cause of sexual misconduct with multiple minors.

The Faulkner County Sheriff's department says Charles "Hank" Hawkins is being held without bond as they turn over evidence of sexual misconduct with a minor over to the prosecutor. The victims range in age from 4 to 6 years old and knew Hawkins well.

"The judge put a no bond on him where he can't get out. I think it was mainly because of the victims and where they lived and they were at his disposal," said Matt Rice of the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office.

Formal charges have not yet been filed. Hawkins has no prior criminal history in Faulkner County.

Hawkins had involvement with minors. As a volunteer firefighter, Hawkins lead youth fire safety classes. According to an article from the Log Cabin Democrat, taught fire safety, this included teaching youth to escape from a burning house with hands on training.

Hawkins listed on his resume that he was a Boy Scout leader and was named Boy Scouts of America District Commissioner of the year in 2006. It's unclear if he was a current scout leader. The Boy Scouts did not return a request for comment.

"You know, you never know somebody behind closed doors. You always need to check and do a little background on the people you have your kids around," Rice said.

Charges are expected to brought later this week or next once the prosecutor reviews the evidence.

"There is evidence to correlate to what they're saying. So we also have to send things off to the crime lab so it takes a little time," Rice said.
