FAYETTEVILLE (AP) - Cabot would love nothing more than to celebrate its first state championship since 2000, even if it had to wait a week because off last week's wintry weather.

The Panthers (12-0) will finally have their chance this weekend when they face a Bentonville team that's lost in the last two championship games to Fayetteville.

The Tigers' (10-2) only losses this season came to out-of-state powers Broken Arrow (Okla.) and Euless (Texas) Trinity, and they are led by talented sophomore quarterback Kasey Ford. A win for Bentonville would give the West its ninth-straight title in the state's largest classification.

Cabot fullback Zach Launius had five touchdowns in an overtime win over North Little Rock in the semifinals, and the Panthers' ground game could thrive in the rainy weather that's expected on Friday night.

Bentonville has won two state championships under coach Barry Lunney, and it hopes to add a third this week.
