Family of woman killed in dog attack suing animal's owner

Posted: Updated:

The estate of a Hot Springs Village woman who was attacked and killed by a Bull Mastiff, is suing the dog's owner, asking for $2,500,000.

The estate of Joan Kappen has filed suit against Emily and Brande Coy, claiming negligence. The suit alleges Emily Coy's bull mastiff attacked the 75-year-old Kappen last month while she was out for her morning walk. The dog was euthanized at the request of Coy.

Coy told police she had let the dog out of the house no more than five minutes before the attack. She says the dog had never attacked anyone before.
