LR voters approve Robinson Hall renovations

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Voters have approved a plan to overhaul the Robinson Center Music Hall in downtown Little Rock.

According to complete but unofficial results, nearly three-quarters of voters approved the proposal Tuesday to issue up to $73.5 million in bonds to renovate the performance hall, which was built in 1939.

The plan dedicates a portion of the city's existing 2 percent restaurant and hotel tax to repay bonds for the project. The tax had been used for the construction of the Statehouse Convention Center, and those bonds are about to be retired.

The renovations include a reconfiguration of the performance space, creating two tiers of balcony seats.

The Pulaski County Election Commission says about 6 percent of registered voters cast ballots in the special election.
