Ark. trooper struck while checking wreck on ice

Posted: Updated:

HAZEN (AP) - Arkansas State Police say a trooper was injured while investigating a crash on icy Interstate 40 near the White River.

Corporal Damon Dodson was taken to a hospital with minor injuries after the accident Friday morning. State police said Dodson was in his patrol car when a pickup truck hit his vehicle.

The agency says most crashes reported Friday were "slide-offs" as drivers slid into ditches or medians along roadways. There were jackknifed 18-wheelers along Interstates 40 and 55 and trucks stalled along U.S. 65 in Searcy County and on Arkansas 7 in Newton County.

While precipitation is ending, conditions are expected to worsen tonight as cold air sweeps over wet and slushy roads. It's recommended that people stay home unless it is absolutely necessary to travel.
