Ark. GOP official sues Beebe over public records

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - The executive director of the Republican Party of Arkansas is suing Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe over a public records request.

Megan Tollett's attorneys filed a lawsuit on Monday in Pulaski County after Tollett didn't get records she requested from Beebe's office under the Freedom of Information Act.

The lawsuit says Tollett requested documents this year that the governor's office received from people seeking appointments to state boards or commissions.

But the lawsuit says the governor's office said the documents fall under an exemption from the public records law.

Beebe spokesman Matt DeCample says the governor's office plans to fight the lawsuit and has been in contact with the attorney general's office. DeCample declined to discuss the details of the case.
