Ark. man gets 70 years for home burglaries

Posted: Updated:

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - An Arkansas man with several prior felony convictions was sentenced to 70 years in prison for a string of residential burglaries and other felony charges.

The Hot Springs Sentinel-Record reports (http://bit.ly/17TMzql) that 33-year-old Christopher Allen Newton, of Royal, pleaded guilty this week to six counts of residential burglary and lesser charges of theft.

Newton had 13 prior felony convictions on his record.

Prosecutors say most of the home burglaries took place around the holidays last year. Prosecutors say Newton broke into homes and stole personal property. He also forged checks and used stolen credit cards to buy items.

Current prison guidelines say Newton could be eligible for parole after 12 years.
