Head-on collision leaves one man dead

LONOKE COUNTY (KATV) - A Cabot man is dead after a head-on collision Friday morning.

According to Arkansas State Police initial reports, around 7:45 a.m., a Nissan truck was heading south on Highway 5 near Shurley Ln. when it swerved into the northbound lane to avoid a wrecker on the side of the road.  The truck reportedly hit a car coming from the other direction head-on. 

A passenger in the second vehicle, 79-year-old Ernest D. Smith, was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead Friday afternoon. 

An 11-year-old second passenger and both drivers were also taken to central Arkansas hospitals for treatment. 

Conditions were reportedly rainy and wet at the time of the accident.
