Former Athletic Director Sentenced to Seven Months in Prison

Posted: Updated:

A former Tulsa Public Schools athletic director was sentenced to seven months in prison for embezzling money from the district.

Stephanie Spring admitted to a federal courtroom in March of this year that she took money for the rental of school facilities in Tulsa instead of putting it in the school's fund. She appeared in court Wednesday afternoon where a judge gave her the sentence.

During the court appearance the judge stated that she would be released and supervised for three years. Spring also will have to pay back all the money she took from the school district and an additional $10,000 fine.

"I am so sorry for what I have done," Spring said in a statement to KTUL back in March. "I broke the law, I broke the people's trust and I broke the very core of my upbringing. I have no excuse for what I did."

Earlier this month Spring's attorney requested the judge to minimize her sentence since she "accepted responsibility" and "assisted authorities in the investigation."

In November of 2011, Spring was suspended from her athletic director position along with her assistant athletic directors Jon Wheeler and Trish Pruitt. Federal investigators stepped into the case in 2012 as the embezzlement case continued.
