Ark. lawmakers to discuss school employees, guns

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas lawmakers are set to talk about certifying public school employees to carry guns.

Tuesday's joint meeting of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees in Little Rock comes after a state board voted in September to allow more than a dozen school districts to continue using teachers, administrators and other staff as armed guards.

The Arkansas Board of Private Investigators and Private Security Agencies voted in September to allow 13 school districts to continue using teachers, administrators and other staff as armed guards, despite a warning from the state's attorney general that the licensing law they relied upon was intended for private businesses.

The board said it wouldn't accept any new applications from school districts.
