FAYETTEVILLE (AP) - North Little Rock has faded into the background somewhat this season after beginning it as one of the favorites to win the Class 7A state championship.

The No. 4 Charging Wildcats (8-2) hope to emerge from shadows on Friday night when they host Rogers Heritage in the opening round of the state playoffs.

Led by coach Brad Bolding, North Little Rock lost early season games to South Panola (Miss.) and Cabot. The Charging Wildcats have won six straight games since then, overcoming a season-ending knee injury to standout running back Juan Day.

The War Eagles (5-5) lost to intra-city rival Rogers High 56-31 last week, but they did enough to earn the No. 6 seed from the West. Rogers Heritage lost 13-10 to No. 1 Bentonville earlier this season, and lost by one point to No. 6 Fayetteville.

North Little Rock figures to provide an equally difficult task.
