New trial denied for man convicted in wife's death

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A judge has rejected a request for a new trial by a man convicted of hiring a man to kill his wife.

The Texarkana Gazette reports that Judge Charles Yeargan ruled that 68-year-old David Camp failed to show that his defense attorney was ineffective during his trial in 2009.

Camp was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for hiring the man who shot and killed Robin Camp on Memorial Day, 2008, at the Family Dollar store in Nashville where she worked.

Camp claims that his now-dead attorney failed to keep him informed about a potential plea deal in which he would be sentenced to 20 years in prison. Yeargan's ruling says Camp did not present enough facts to support his claim of ineffective counsel.
