Dept. of Public Safety investigates 3 fatal accidents

Officials with the Alabama Department of Public Safety are investigating a single car crash that claimed the life a child.  It happened around 2:10 p.m. Monday on Shelby County 57 in the Vincent city limits. Officials say 2 year old, Larry Abbott, was a passenger in a car that left the roadway and overturned.  The car was driven by 22 year old Brooke Smith.

Authorities are also investigating fatal crashes in Fayette and St. Clair Counties. Christopher Swain of Talladega died Tuesday morning when a 2013 Peterbilt tractor trailer he was driving left the roadway and struck several trees.  That accident happened around 5:35 a.m. on Interstate 20 westbound two miles east of Pell City.

A Fayette man died from injuries sustained in a crash Friday.  Billy Marcus Bentley, 47, was on Alabama 129 south of Glen Allen when the truck he was driving left the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned.  He died Sunday at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.  Officials say Bentley was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the truck.  The crash was not reported until later by a passing motorist.
