Abandoned Grocery Store Catches Fire

Posted: Updated:

Officers arrested a man Thursday morning accused of setting fire to an abandoned grocery story.

Tulsa Fire Department responded to the fire around 4:30 a.m. in the back of the former Piggly Wiggly. This is near Admiral and Harvard in north Tulsa.

Officials at the scene told KTUL that once crews arrived on scene a man, identified as Dustin Steward, was discovered using thermal imaging technology. Initially he was believed to have been using the building for shelter.

Tulsa Police Department stated that Steward started the fire after climbing in through a hole in the roof. He was treated for smoke inhalation and taken into custody.

Steward faces a second degree arson complaint.
