Search Resumes in Leflore County for Missing Pilot

Posted: Updated:

Search crews are continuing efforts Wednesday in Leflore County after a 71-year-old pilot was reported missing.

Officials with the Leflore County Sheriff's Office told KTUL's sister station 40-29 in Arkansas that Elmer Broadbent went missing earlier this week. He had reportedly taken off from Little Rock headed towards Elk City.

"A lot of it is only accessible by foot, horseback, or ATV," Leflore County Sheriff Rob Seale told 40-29. "You can't really get any big vehicles in there, four-wheel-drive vehicles or anything. So it's going to take a while to search it. Our best bet is to hope the plane, will be able to find it on an aerial search and direct us in there."

Crews have returned to the area in southeast Oklahoma where Broadbent's plane was last seen on radar.

Broadbent had been piloting a Piper Cub plane. His family stated that he has been flying since he was 19-years-old.
