74% support arming school personnel in Faulkner County district

MT VERNON-ENOLA (KATV) - School shootings have left parents and faculty wondering how to best protect students. Some say proper training of school personnel is the answer.

The Mount Vernon-Enola School District in Faulkner County sent a survey to students, parents and faculty to find out their thoughts about deputizing some school personnel.

And the district's superintendent says the results were no surprise to him.

"Parental support is 79% that's in favor of it. The staff is about 82% in terms of support and the student body in grades 7-12 is at 67%," said superintendent Larry Walters. "Overall support of 74%."

The school board has asked the superintendent to come up with a plan to implement the program.

That plan will be discussed at the next board meeting November 21st.
