BBQ teams compete to raise money for Ark. American Cancer Society

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) -

Barbeque teams used their cooking skills to help raise money for the Arkansas chapter of the American Cancer Society this weekend.

The sixth annual B Street Rib Off was held at MacArthur Park in Little Rock.

This year's event featured a BBQ cooking competition that included ribs, chicken and side dishes.

Organizers said participants didn't have to cook to help.

"You'd be surprised at the number of people who come up and say, ‘You know, I can't cook barbeque and my potato salad's really not that good, but I still want to help so here's a check for $20,'" founder Jason Brown explained. "We're happy to take anything we can get because we know that money is gonna help folks right here in central Arkansas and our community."

Sixteen teams competed in this year's event.

All proceeds benefit the Arkansas chapter of the American Cancer Society.

The B Street Rib Off was founded in 2008 by Jason Brown, Justin Hinton and Matthew Ross as a friendly competition to establish the best rib cook in the group.

The founders turned the annual event into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
