ROGERS, Ark. (AP) - A senior biologist for the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission plans to speak about the rare plants and habitats of Northwest Arkansas at Hobbs State Park.

Theo Witsell has been the senior botanist for the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission since 2000. He serves as the technical editor for the Arkansas Native Plant Society and is a regional reviewer for the Flora of North America Project.

Witsell's favorite research interests include the ecology and conservation of rare plants and their habitats, and the restoration of degraded ecosystems.

Witsell will discuss the state's rare plants on Sunday at 2 p.m. Steve Chyrchel, interpreter at Hobbs State Park, says residents who are curious about the area's rare plants, their habitats and where they're found will benefit from Witsell's knowledge.
